14 CommentsToday is election day, and voters in a special Congressional election have a choice between Doug Hoffman, a conservative who believes in conservative principles of lower taxes, less spending and less government, and a liberal Democrat who will be a rubber stamp for Nancy Pelosi.
When Republican Dede Scozzafava pulled out of the race, the RNC fully supported Doug Hoffman's campaign. The RNC has given the maximum donation to the Hoffman campaign, we are making calls urging voters to vote for Doug Hoffman and we are currently running radio ads urging voters to support conservative candidates in today's election.
The RNC looks forward to Doug Hoffman joining like-minded Republicans in Congress to oppose the liberal agenda of President Obama and Nancy Pelosi.

I read most of the comments and cannot agree more - the RNC/GOP must begin to express its "conservative" values everywhere - and they must stop supporting RINO's! NY 23 should be a lesson, so, the RNC will again have a choice in Florida in 2010 - Charlie Christ vs. Marco Rubio? Comparing credentials, we have a RINO vs a conservative. Will the RNC change its previously stated support for Charlie Christ? I hope so. Marco Rubio is a true conservative, and should be the candidate of choice supported by the RNC. Because I have strong conservative values, I will be supporting Marco in any way I can. If the RNC/GOP wants to make a difference, then it is this type of decision which will prove to me that they are getting the message!

When is the GOP going to wake up and smell the coffee! As long as you support the likes of Dede Scozzafava (NY 23rd) you will not gain the support of YOUR CONSERVATIVE BASE. The next time I receive a call to donate to the GOP I will ask how much of the $900,000 funding has been returned to the GOP by Ms Scozzafava. This is finance money donated by hard working Americans who trusted you to support CONSERVATIVE candidates. America is in crisis and are on the verge of being bankrupted. We need to get the RHINO's out of the GOP and return to CONSERVATIVE VALUES.

As a live-long Republican who is retired and on a limited income, I have continued to donate what funds I can scrape up when I can. However, that is about to change. The GOP continually backs RHINOs in elections, and I can no longer support that effort. I will no longer contribute one red cent to the party unless, and until, true conservatives are backed in elections by the GOP. If we can't win with true conservatives then we shouldn't win at all. I voted for McCain because he was the lesser of two evils, but he certainly didn't, and does not, represent my conservative convictions. The GOP is in dissaray right now because it doesn't really know what it wants to be when it grows up. It has better find out soon, or the Independents will continue to vote Democratic.

The same thing is happening in the Senate race in KY between conservative Republican Rand Paul and Liberal, Clinton supporting, "Republican" Trey Grayson. Even though Paul is leading in the polls and fund-raising, the RNC/Mitch McConnell has chosen to support Grayson. Grayson is probably more liberal than the leading Democratic contender. Who's side is McConnell and the Republican leadership on anyway? They wasted almost 1 million dollars in the NY Congressional race and they couldn't even get their nominee to vote for the conservative when she dropped out. Talk about a waste of money! Not one more red penny to the NRSC unless McConnell, et al start supporting real Republicans.

Thanks GOP! Your original candidate selection was not conservative by any stretch. It is a joke to endorse the conservative after the fact. It would be nice to see the party stand for something and stay focused on it. I am not sure why a contract with America was never brought back and done every year. It would actually force the Democrats/Liberals to oppose it or go with it. GOP could actually lead. Actions speak louder than words. Your candidate selected endorsed the Democrat, not the conservative. I am not sure if there is much difference anymore. Both parties are just trying to keep each other in power. After years of supporting the party, I am now going independent.

The GOP has been given a chance redeem itself or face some difficult consequences in any upcoming elections. Our elected officials need to "get it". We are bound by a value system that means so much to us that that we will no longer tolerate any deviation from those core beliefs. Our truths are not subjective. We do not argue the meaning of "is". Any success will be because of the power of our common bond which is pure and simplistic. There should be no need EVER to cave in under political pressure, as the RNC did with DeDe! Truth and honesty are never desperate or self-serving. I know it is a tall order to many in congress, but they need to stick to the core of our parties beliefs... win or loose! The left will loose its power to control as soon as we no longer compromise. Our standards give us power. I would pray that we never believe that a "white lie" is not a lie. Fool me once-shame on you! Fool me twice-shame on me! We are blessed to be given another chance to try to clean up this mess in Washington. We may not have another.

The Republican Party supported a left wing candidate in Dede Scozzafava. She had ties to ACORN, supported abortions, voted for the stimulus bill, and supported the democrat in the race. It is time for the Republican Party to return to its conservative roots and ignore RINO's like Dede Scozzafava, John McCain, Colin Powell, Olympia Snowe, Lindsey Graham, and Charlie Crist. 40% of Americans classify themselves as conservatives, 36% as independents, and 20% as liberals. If the Republican Party wants to win and save America from the fascists in the Democrat Party, run conservatives. Americans are sick of the destructive policies of Barack Hussein Obama and the Democrats.

Totally concur with all of the posts. Love the RINO Steve! Make some bumper stickers I would buy some. Way too little and weeks to late for the RNC to say they supported the CONSERVATIVE candidate. It is time for the RNC/GOP to wake up and smell the coffe before they cause the downfall of the RNC.Stop supporting RINO's like Scuzzy, Collins,Specter and Snowe. Who in the RNC/GOP thought supporting Scuzzy was a good idea? She holds no conservative views what so ever. Thanks to the RNC there is a Democrat sitting in that seat. Of course had Scuzzy been elected there would still be a Democrat seated who would sign on to the Pelosi agenda. I will not support the RNC/GOP ever again. MY money will go directly to Conservative candidates.

Gee whiz. It seems to me that part of this story was left out. That part of the story that should embarrass the RNC and GOP beyond its ability to spin and apologize. I am glad NY23 came to a position of such wide attention, or I might have missed it as a diagnosis of what our party is actually suffering. Certainly I knew things were heading south when the previous 8 years were filled with massive spending on social programs, but at least I had my tax cuts as a trophy of the core values of my party. As those near their almost certain expiration, what will I hold as a trophy of my party next? You would suggest that Scozzafava, the pro-choice, pro-health care, democrat-endorsing candidate is what our party needed? You were as mistaken here as you were with your suggestion for a aisle-crossing ninny of a presidential candidate who was just as incapable of articulating a positive position of differentiation as this woman was. Do not gloat if this race becomes a victory. That is too much like cheering for the team that is up by 20 points in the last 5 minutes of the fourth quarter. This party chose to willingly stand behind a candidate because she had an "R" next to her name. Her "R" was meaningless and void, and by endorsing her, the party's "R" is threatened to become meaningless and void. My money will be placed directly into the coffers of candidates from this point on. When I go the booth, I will no longer feel confident selecting candidates by party. For a little while at least, I shant even identify myself as a republican, fearing that I might be asked to explain my party's foolish incident in New York. An incident I cannot explain without turning red in the face myself.
