Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s “Unflappable” Performance In Her Confirmation Hearing Has Even Won Support From Democrats And Independents, Propelling Her Confirmation To New Heights As The Judiciary Committee Votes Today

JUDGE AMY CONEY BARRETT’S POPULARITY HAS RISEN STEADILY SINCE HER NOMINATION WITH POLLS CONSISTENTLY SHOWING THAT MOST VOTERS SUPPORT HER CONFIRMATION TO THE SUPREME COURT
Last week’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearings “provided a high-profile opportunity for Democrats to erode public support for Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s Supreme Court confirmation;” instead, support for President Donald Trump’s nominee has reached a new high.
Following four days of hearings, 51% of voters said the Senate should confirm Judge Barret, up 3% from the week before and 14% since Trump announced her nomination on Sept. 26th.
Judge Barrett’s popularity is the highest level of support for any of President Trump’s Supreme Court nominees.
The bulk of the movement was driven by Independents and Democrats.
44% of Independent voters now back Judge Barrett’s confirmation.
34% of Democrats now say the Senate should confirm Judge Barrett, up 18% from the day she was nominated by President Trump.
One result is consistent: More voters think the Senate should proceed before the Nov. 3 election than think they should wait.
A Gallup Poll conducted from right after Barrett’s nomination and concluding on the final day of the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings last week also found that 51% of Americans believe the Senate should vote in favor of Judge Barrett’s nomination
Politico: “Polls show that the confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court is generally popular with voters.”
Even Senate Judiciary Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein admitted she was “really impressed” with Judge Barrett’s testimony.
JUDGE BARRETT’S RISING POPULARITY IS UNSURPRISING GIVEN HER “IMPRESSIVE” PERFORMANCE DURING HER CONFIRMATION HEARINGS
CNN Legal Analyst Paul Callan: “Judge Amy Coney Barrett delivered a relatively flawless showing in her controversial Senate confirmation hearing.”
There is “remarkable agreement” among Democrats and Republicans that Barrett performed well during her confirmation hearings.
CNN: Even Democrats think Judge Barrett was “very impressive” in her confirmation hearings.
The Views’ Sara Haines: “I was impressed with her legal prowess,” even though “I disagree fundamentally with Amy Coney Barrett’s judicial philosophy.”
PBS’s Lisa Desjardins: “Democrats will admit to you, if they — you talk to them without using their name, that she was a strong witness, a strong conferee, that she was not someone who could be rattled.”
Politico: “Barrett rarely, if ever, tripped up as she faced questions from Democrats.”
Judge Barrett was “absolutely unflappable” during questioning from the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Judge Barrett’s positive polling is a “warning sign” for Senate Democrats whose criticism of her nomination process have fallen flat.
WHILE BARRETT SHINED, DEMOCRATS’ EFFORTS TO USE THE HEARINGS TO CAMPAIGN AGAINST PRESIDENT TRUMP FELL FLAT
Judge Barrett “frustrated Democrats” in their attempts to make her confirmation hearings about their own legislative priorities rather than her fitness to serve as a Supreme Court Justice.
With little chance of derailing the confirmation, Democrats instead have used the hearings to amplify their pitch to voters.
Instead of the “fierce prosecutorial attack” Democrats and their allies were expecting from Kamala Harris, she delivered what one CNN legal analyst called “a stump speech about the evils of Donald Trump.”
Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse used his time to deliver a “30-minutes speech about dark money without asking a question to Barrett.”
The Washington Post’s Seung Min Kim excoriated Democrats for their strategy saying, “Senators on both sides owe it to the public to ask good, probing questions that shed light on a nominee's philosophy.”
