Less than two days ago, David Garcia showed his liberal colors and joined the progressive ranks calling to abolish ICE. Doubling down on his support, Garcia again said he would abolish ICE during last night’s Democratic gubernatorial debate. But today, it is now clear that Arizonans don’t share his support of the dangerous movement.
Today, Data Orbital released a new poll showing that less than 17% of Arizonans support abolishing ICE – much lower than the support in a national poll from Politico. Yet Democrats don’t seem concerned with the lack of support, as the Washington Post reported that a group of House Democrats are preparing a bill that will disband ICE within a year.
As a border state that would be immediately and directly impacted, Arizonans obviously don’t want to jeopardize their safety just to please the progressive base. Will David Garcia continue to support this dangerous movement, or will he walk back his comments and stand up for the safety of Arizonans?
“It is not at all surprising that Arizonans don’t want to abolish an agency that is protecting their border state. What is surprising is that a candidate for governor would chose to endanger voters to pander to his base. Rather than reject this dangerous movement and stand up for the safety of Arizonans, David Garcia has prioritized the progressive base and embraced this wildly unpopular position. Arizonans deserve better than David Garcia.” – Renae Eze, RNC Spokesperson
