As Hearings End, Resounding Praise for “Well Qualified” Judge Amy Coney Barrett

- October 15, 2020

As Her Confirmation Hearings Come To A Close, Judge Amy Coney Barrett Left Even Democrats "Really Impressed"

AS CONFIRMATION HEARINGS COME TO A CLOSE, IT IS CLEAR THAT JUDGE AMY CONEY BARRETT HAS FURTHER PROVEN SHE SHOULD BE CONFIRMED TO THE UNITED STATES’ SUPREME COURT

  • The Hill’s Alex Bolton: “Sen. Cory Booker acknowledges that Amy Coney Barrett is on track to be confirmed: ‘I recognize this goose is pretty much cooked.’”
  • CNN’s Manu Raju: While Democrats called the hearings a “sham process,” Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA) called the confirmation hearings one of the best she has ever participated in.
  • Philadelphia Magazine’s Ernest Owens: “Amy Coney Barrett will get appointed, she has the votes, and this isn't about convincing, it's about numbers that are largely influenced by elections. It's that simple. Republicans are doing what any party would do if they had the power.”
  • The Wall Street Journal: “Amy Coney Barrett Closes Out Testimony, on Track for Senate Approval.”
  • The Washington Post Day 3 takeaways: Barrett will “end up on the Supreme Court.”

TODAY, WITNESSES AND EXPERTS PROVIDED COMPELLING TESTIMONY ON JUDGE BARRETT’S QUALIFICATIONS AND CHARACTER, TESTIFYING THAT SHE WILL BE A GREAT SUPREME COURT JUSTICE

INSTEAD OF FOCUSING ON THE NOMINEES CREDITINTIALS, DEMOCRATS USED THE HEARING TO FOCUS ON POLITICAL ISSUES

DEMOCRATS USED THEIR TIME FOR POLITICAL SPEECHES INSTEAD OF QUESTIONING THE NOMINEE THIS WEEK

  • The Federalist’s Alex Plitsas: “Senator Dick Durbin is complaining that they didn’t learn enough about Judge Amy Coney Barrett during the hearings. Maybe that’s because Democratic senators spoke at her for 30 minutes each instead of asking more questions.”
  • The Wall Street Journal: “The confirmation hearing has been transformed into a debating platform, with the senators now using their 30 minutes largely to speechify instead of to ask Judge Amy Coney Barrett questions.”
  • CNN’s Manu Raju: Senator Whitehouse just delivered a “30-minutes speech about dark money without asking a question to Barrett.”
  • The Hill’s Joe Concha: “So does Barrett get to speak during this ‘questioning’ by Harris reading entirely off pre-prepared remarks for minutes on end or... nah?”
  • The Washington Post’s Seung Min Kim, reacted to Whitehouse not asking questions, stating that Senators “owe it to the public to ask good, probing questions that shed light on a nominee’s philosophy.”

PEOPLE FROM ACROSS THE BOARD HAVE MADE IT CLEAR THAT JUDGE BARRETT IS “IMPRESSIVE” AND IS QUALIFIED TO BE ON THE SUPREME COURT
