Carson and Donnelly: Cool with Anti-Semitism

Michael Joyce - March 13, 2018

When Rep. Andre Carson isn’t attacking the Republican Jewish Coalition, Prime Minister Netanyahu, the Israeli government, or WIBC radio host Tony Katz, he’s refusing to rule out another meeting with Louis Farrakhan.

Carson continues to stand by Farrakhan and has dodged every opportunity to condemn Farrakhan’s anti-Semitic remarks. As for WIBC’s Tony Katz who has been critical of Carson’s allegiance to Farrakhan, Carson said:  "I think what Tony Katz is doing on WIBC is hate speech," Carson said. "He's putting my life and my children's lives in jeopardy. He's jeopardizing the lives of staff members in my office."

More from Tim Swarens: “But Carson's refusal to stand unequivocally against Farrakhan's hatred is disturbing. It should be easy for him to say, "I'll never again meet with Louis Farrakhan to discuss public policy or any other issue."  After all, we're talking about the 84-year-old leader of a hate group who has shown no remorse for spreading ugly stereotypes. Farrakhan long ago disqualified himself from any legitimate role in American politics. Carson and other Democratic leaders should have publicly shunned him long before the Chicago speech. The fact that they still haven't is a stain on their record and their party.”

Why is Carson so quick to call Tony Katz’s response to anti-Semitism “hate speech,” while he can’t find it within himself to condemn Farrakhan’s blatantly anti-Semitic remarks? And reminder: Carson is Joe Donnelly’s top campaign surrogate, who has said nothing about Carson or Carson’s unapologetic relationship with Farrakhan.

“Representative Andre Carson is clearly portraying himself as an anti-Semite who will protect Louis Farrakhan at all costs. Making matters worse, Joe Donnelly made Carson his top campaign surrogate but refuses to call out Carson for protecting this anti-Semitic hate mongerer. This speaks volumes of the character of both Carson and Donnelly, and Hoosiers should not give these two Democrats a free pass on this subject.” –RNC Spokesperson Michael Joyce
