Today, the Washington Post reported that a group of House Democrats are preparing a bill that would disband ICE within a year. This news comes on the same day that a Politico/Morning Consult poll was released showing that only 1 in 4 Americans actually support abolishing ICE.
We know where Ilhan Omar stands. Looking to secure the DFL endorsement in a highly competitive race to fill Keith Ellison’s open seat, Omar joined the #AbolishICE movement, making it a top priority in her campaign. In return, she won the endorsement with nearly 70 percent of the vote.
As more Democrats continue to back proposals that would dissolve ICE, suburban Democrats Angie Craig and Dean Phillips have refused to tell Minnesota voters where they stand.
“Angie Craig and Dean Phillips have found themselves between a rock and a hard place. Fearing backlash from either rural or urban voters in their districts, Phillips and Craig have chosen to remain silent on key issues like the future of ICE. With the safety of our state at risk, Minnesotans deserve to know – will Phillips and Craig join Ilhan Omar and Minnesota Democrats in their support of disbanding ICE, or will they put the safety and security of our state first? – RNC Spokesperson Preya Samsundar
