Flashback To When Albright Was Doing Calls Attacking Obama

- October 8, 2012

In 2007, Former Secretary Of State Madeleine Albright Criticized Obama's Promise To Meet With Rogue Leaders

Albright Said That Meeting With Hostile Leaders Without Doing "The Diplomatic Spadework…Would Not Really Prove Anything." "The day after the debate, the Clinton campaign made former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, a Clinton supporter, available to reporters to challenge Obama's response. 'It's a step-by-step process. It's not just some event,' Albright said of such head-of-state meetings. 'I would think that without having done the diplomatic spadework, it would not really prove anything,' Albright said." (Tom Raum, "Obama Debate Comments Set Off Firestorm," The Associated Press, 7/25/07)

Albright Implied That Obama Was Wrong To Agree To Meetings With Hostile Leaders Without Preconditions His First Year In Office. "Madeleine Albright, who served as secretary of state under Clinton's husband, called Clinton's answer 'perfect' and strongly implied that Obama was wrong to not recognize the importance of the 'diplomatic spade work' that is best performed by lower-level personnel, not the president." (Rick Klein, "Clinton: Obama 'Irresponsible And Naïve,'" ABC News, 7/24/07)

  • "'Having Been Involved In This Myself, I Think She Showed A Very Sophisticated And Nuanced View Of What Really Happened, And For Me, It Shows The Kind Of Experience She Has,' Albright Said In A Conference Call With Reporters Arranged By The Clinton Campaign Today." (Rick Klein, "Clinton: Obama 'Irresponsible And Naïve,'" ABC News, 7/24/07)

In 2008, Albright Said That Meetings With Iran Should Only Occur In Secret

"We Should Talk To The Iranians, If Only To Find Out What They Are Thinking, But Always Behind Closed Doors, In Secret." (Nicholas Wapshott, "Madame Secretary Plays The Consigliore," The New York Sun, 1/10/08)
