In response to a question from 9 News comparing objections from governors against deploying the National Guard to the border to deploying Guard servicemembers overseas, here is what Jared Polis said on Thursday evening:
Kyle Clark: "Sure, but this idea that I won’t give the President access to our National Guard troops if I think it’s political. You could use the same rational to not allow someone fight in Afghanistan or Iraq, is that dangerous?"Jared Polis: "Well, it wouldn’t be Colorado National Guard units going to Afghanistan or Iraq, it would be, you know, U.S. Military."
Walker Stapleton's running mate retired Lieutenant Colonel Air National Guardsman and TOPGUN instructor Lang Sias issued a blistering response:
As a National Guardsman who deployed to Iraq, I'm appalled that @jaredpolis, who wants to be the next #cogov and have command of the CO National Guard, is so ignorant that he doesn't even know about the National Guard's involvement in the war on terror. pic.twitter.com/TLu0kyRPGk

The next governor should recognize the sacrifice these men and women have made to protect our freedom. While Congressman Polis seems to have no idea what the National Guard even does, I know Walker will be a governor who always supports our troops.

The Colorado National Guard and Colorado Air National Guard are components of the United States Army and Air Force, respectively. National Guardsmen from Colorado have been instrumental contributors in the war against terrorism, deploying numerous times to Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001.
Service members from Colorado National Guard Company B, 5th Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne) received valor awards for their service last September at Fort Carson.
To date Jared Polis has not clarified or explained his apparent ignorance of the fact that the Colorado National Guard is a component of the United States military and serves our country overseas.
