- Arizona Republicans call for Democrats to stop the obstruction and ‘fairly evaluate’-
Judge Brett Kavanaugh is a highly qualified nominee and exactly the type of mainstream conservative jurist that Arizonans need to have sitting on the bench.
That was the consensus of three prominent Arizona Republicans, speaking on a conference call yesterday. Judge Kavanaugh has a plethora of impressive credentials that you don’t find in some of the highest qualified nominees, said Congressman Andy Biggs, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, calling on his friends across the aisle to recognize his qualifications and to swiftly confirm his nomination.
“I am extremely pleased with the nomination of Judge Kavanaugh, and I’m not alone,” Biggs said. “The New York Times has indicated his qualifications. USA Today has said he may be the most qualified candidate we have seen in a generation or something to that effect. The ADA has given him his highest rating which is unusual.”
Judge Kavanaugh’s commitment to upholding the law is unwavering with his numerous impartial rulings against Republicans, said Arizona Republican Party Chairman Jonathan Lines.
“Looking back at some of his experiences where he has been an independent and impartial arbiter of the law, ruling against, for example, Bush administration policies a number of times, I think 23 times, ruling against the RNC in a campaign finance case in favor of Emily’s List. He has demonstrated his impartiality, and his rulings are based on laws never politics, never policy, or the identity of the litigants,” Lines said.
Despite Judge Kavanaugh’s qualifications and impeccable judicial credentials, Democrats would rather derail the proceedings, which is disrespectful to the people they represent, said former Arizona Governor Jan Brewer.
“I must say, I’ve been very disappointed with some of the senators. I believe they’ve acted like a pack of coyotes in a hunt. It’s been very disturbing,” Brewer said. “Judge Kavanaugh has proven through history he believes in the rule of law and respects the precedent of the court, and I think that’s what the public is concerned about. Certainly, the left-wing protestors have been outrageous, in my opinion, boisterous and disrespectful of the institution of the United States Congress, and I believe the public deserves better.”
Congressman Biggs and Chairman Lines also voiced disappointment at Democrats unwillingness to evaluate Judge Kavanaugh fairly.
“I think it’s remarkable he’s been exposed, if you will, in a way more transparent than any other judicial nominee in my lifetime since I’ve been a lawyer, and that’s been a long time since I’ve seen these things go down, so I am a little bit surprised by the obstructionism there. Chuck Schumer has said he really wants to do everything he can to scuttle the nomination That’s really not the way it should be, we should get back to what’s known as the Ginsburg Rule where you allow the judges to be judicial in front of the committee,” Biggs said.
“There is one thing that struck me and that is the demonization by the left, by the Democrats of proposed Justice Kavanaugh, and it was embarrassing to watch and listen to the outburst from the back of the room. It demonstrates the Democratic cynicism and the extreme position they’ve taken against Kavanaugh from the beginning, even though he’s been regarded as one the brightest and most qualified of this generation,” Lines said.
