The Democrats’ H.R. 1 is not about strengthening our democracy – it is a Palpatine power grab.
H.R. 1 would allow the federal government to take over our elections, and in the process it would:
- Threaten our freedom of speech
- Disregarded voter ID laws
- Send taxpayer dollars to politicians’ campaign accounts
- Legalize ballot harvesting
- Prevent officials from removing ineligible voters from voter rolls

Even the ACLU has expressed concerns about how H.R. 1 could threaten freedom of speech: “We continue to have significant constitutional concerns with the bill, particularly the ways it would restrict nonprofit organizations’ advocacy about issues of national importance…other provisions of H.R. 1 that could harm political advocacy and expose non-profit donors to harassment and threats of violence.”
Far from reinforcing faith in the integrity of our elections, H.R. 1 would undermine it.
