President Trump Has Taken Unprecedented Action To Ensure That Americans Are Taken Care Of Throughout The Pandemic
WHEN THE CORONAVIRUS EMERGED, PRESIDENT TRUMP TOOK ACTION TO PROTECT AMERICANS AND ENSURE THEY HAVE THE RESOURCES NEEDED TO COMBAT THE VIRUS
- When the coronavirus first emerged, the Trump Administration took action early and prepared the nation by declaring the coronavirus a health emergency and suspending entry into the U.S. to help mitigate the spread.
- Experts praised President Trump, as the travel ban prevented more cases from spreading throughout the country.
- Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, agreed that President Trump’s action saved lives.
- In the beginning of February, President Trump established a Coronavirus Task Force and started communicating with State, and local health officials to discuss the federal-state-local partnership to prepare and respond to the coronavirus.
- In February, President Trump requested additional funding of at least $2.5 billion to help fight the coronavirus.
- In March, the President signed an $8.3 billion coronavirus outbreak supplemental bill to develop a vaccine and assist with local and State governments.
- In early March, the Trump Administration announced the “Whole Of America Approach,” which brought businesses and industries across the country together to work with the White House and combat the virus.
- In an effort to increase production within the private sector, the Administration announced the Supply Chain Task Force on March 30, 2020.
- President Trump appointed Navy Rear Admiral John Polowczyk to oversee the Supply Chain Task Force to “coordinate the federal government’s collection and distribution” of personal protective equipment (PPE), and help prevent any supply shortfalls.
- In an effort to boost production of PPE and ventilators, President Trump used the Defense Production Act (DPA) to help companies secure the supplies they need.
- The Trump Administration also invoked the DPA to prevent exportation of surgical masks and gloves during the pandemic, and to prevent “war profiteers from hoarding supplies to generate foreign demand.”
- Due to the Trump Administration’s efforts the Task force was able to work with companies to quickly produce 100,000 ventilators to ensure that “no patients who needs one goes without a ventilator.”
- The Trump Administration’s partnership has also ensured that there is enough PPE available and so far has delivered more than 200 million N95 masks, 855 million surgical masks, 36 million goggles and face shield, 364 million gowns and coveralls, and 21 billion gloves.
- In an effort to increase production within the private sector, the Administration announced the Supply Chain Task Force on March 30, 2020.
PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS CONTINUED TO ASSIST VULNERABLE COMMUNITIES AS THE NATION COMBATS THE CORONAVIRUS
- The Trump Administration has taken steps to protect our nation’s seniors and the most vulnerable communities during the pandemic.
- Early on, the Trump Administration issued guidance to prioritize inspection efforts at nursing homes around the country to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.
- In an effort to continue to mitigate the spread, the Trump Administration provided technical assistance and support to nursing homes to include onsite visits to higher-risk nursing homes.
- The Trump Administration also expanded access to free testing and telehealth or Medicare beneficiaries.
- The Trump Administration has continued to ensure that supplies and critical assistance is being provided to our nation’s seniors.
- To date the Trump Administration has distributed about $2.5 billion to nursing homes to assist with the increase in testing, staffing, and PPE needs.
PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS TAKEN ACTION TO ENSURE THAT NO CHILD OR FAMILY GOES HUNGRY
- The Trump Administration has taken unprecedented steps to ensure that no child or family goes without a meal during the pandemic.
- Early on the Trump Administration expanded monthly SNAP benefits by 40%, to ensure that families receive the benefits they need.
- The Trump Administration also has ensured that families have access to the SNAP Online Pilot Program; the program allows food stamp recipients to stay safe and purchase food online.
- To ensure that children continue to receive meals, the USDA expanded the summer program through the fall, which will help feed children who are at home and would otherwise receive school lunches.
- As part of the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program, the Trump Administration partnered with the agriculture sector to distribute family food boxes to families to ensure no family goes hungry.
- So far there has been more than 100 million food boxes delivered in support of American farmers and families affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION HAS TAKEN UNPRECEDENTED STEPS TO ENSURE ALL AMERICANS HAVE ACCESS TO THE BEST TESTING
- The Trump Administration has ensured that all Americans have access to the most advanced COVID-19 tests.
- In early March, President Trump took action to ensure that Americans access to free testing in their communities.
- The Trump Administration has made testing a priority, as the U.S. has already conducted more than 119 million COVID-19 tests.
- As of August 6th, the Trump Administration has delivered more than 41.6 million swabs and 32.9 million units of media to states, territories, and tribes to help increase testing capacity.
- President Trump has also ensured that federal assistance is provided to communities to help with testing efforts and has deployed over 19,000 federal personnel across the country.
- The President’s testing initiative has invested in the expansion of point-of- care testing and has supported “pooling of samples to improve turnaround times even more.”
- Millions of point-of- care testing has provided patients with a turnaround time of just “15 minutes, and tests conducted by hospitals have a turnaround time of less than 24 hours.”
- The Trump Administration has also ensured that nursing homes have the testing support they need, as nearly 3,600 antigen test machines have been distributed with a goal to deliver test machines to every nursing home in the United States.
- The Trump Administration has continued to work with companies to ensure that our testing ability is more widely available and is provided to anyone who needs one.
- Recently the President announced a new testing strategy to deploy Abbott BinaxNow Ag Card rapid test which will assist Governors; efforts to continue to safely reopen in their States.
- The distribution of the rapid tests will “advance the testing needs of congregate living facilities, K-12 schools, critical infrastructure, and the other institutions critical to reopening America.”
PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS BEEN LEADING AN UNPRECEDENTED EFFORT TO ENSURE AMERICANS RECEIVE A CORONAVIRUS VACCINE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
- The Trump Administration has launched a program called Operation Warp Speed (OWS), which has a goal to deliver 300 million doses of an effective coronavirus vaccine by early 2021.
- The program has already invested in six vaccine candidates to ensure a successful vaccine is found and quickly distributed to Americans.
- OWS has already spent about $10 billion to help vaccine makers develop their candidates and build out their production capacity to ensure that Americans receive a vaccine as soon as possible.
- Experts have agreed that OWS will increase the odds Americans will have access to at least one effective vaccine as soon as possible.
- Thomas Triomphe, Executive Vice President and Global Head of Sanofi Pasteur, said that Operation Warp Speed’s plan to invest in more than one vaccine is critical as “the global need for a vaccine to help prevent COVID-19 is massive and no single vaccine or company will be able to meet the global demand alone.”
- US Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said, “the operation of vaccines being assembled for Operation Warp Speed increases the odds that we will have at least one safe, effective vaccine as soon as the end of this year.”
- Drugmakers have said they are on the right track to having an effective vaccine “as soon as possible” while following all safety and regulatory guidelines put in place.
- Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, the rapid development of a coronavirus vaccine “unprecedented,” as top vaccine makers predict a “vaccine or vaccines may be available as early as the beginning of 2021.”
PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS ENSURED THAT AMERICANS RECEIVE ECONOMIC RELIEF DURING THE PANDEMIC AND HAS CONTINUED TO PROVIDE RELIEF SINCE CORONAVIRUS BENEFITS HAVE EXPIRED
- Through the CARES ACT, President Trump provided relief to workers who were impacted by the coronavirus.
- The CARES Act supplemented state unemployment benefits with an additional $600 a week, which doubled the weekly maximum unemployment benefit in most states.
- The Trump Administration’s CARES Act created the Paycheck Protection program which delivered more than $600 billion in funding to support small businesses and help keep Americans employed during the pandemic.
- The PPP has provided more than $521 billion in forgivable loans to more than 5 million businesses and has protected more than 51 million jobs.
- Through the CARES ACT coronavirus relief program, 159 million Americans received a total of $265 billion in economic assistance.
- In August, President Trump signed four Executive Actions to ensure Americans have the economic support they need while the coronavirus continues.
- Through his Executive Actions, President Trump addressed an eviction ban, provided relief to student borrowers, suspended the collection of payroll taxes, and revived unemployment benefits,.
- President Trump’s order enabled renters and homeowners to stay in their homes, and be provided federal assistance; the federal moratorium on evictions was set to expire on July 24th.
- President Trump’s Executive Action also extended student loan deferments for the rest of the year as the Congressional Action was set to expire next month.
- President Trump instructed the Treasury Department to postpone the collection of payroll taxes in a continuing effort to stimulate the economy.
- The President took Executive Action to extend weekly unemployment benefits which were set to expire on July 31st.
- As of September 21st, the Trump Administration has awarded more than $39 billion in support of Lost Wages supplemental assistance.
