Good afternoon -
President Trump makes his 10th trip back to the Buckeye State today to visit the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center (JSMC) in Lima, Ohio - the nation’s largest tank manufacturer that is thriving thanks to President Trump’s commitment to military readiness, national security and economic prosperity.
Under President Obama, the Lima plant was gutted as the Obama Administration sought to close the plant as part of their defense sequestration. While GOP leadership fought to keep it open, it was left with just 75 employees on the day President Obama left office. Now, thanks to President Trump’s increased investments in defense spending, the JSMC is booming with over 600 employees, plans to hire hundreds more, and new buy-in to make even more military tanks that will protect America’s interests abroad.
The revitalization of the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center encapsulates President Trump’s mantra “economic security is national security.” And the good economic news just keeps rolling in.
- Manufacturing jobs like these at the JSMC are flooding back to the US, and manufacturing confidence is at record highs thanks to President Trump.
- The National Association of Manufacturing shows nine consecutive quarters of record optimism, with an average of 91.8 percent of manufacturers positive about their outlook.
- Under President Trump, Ohio has added 17,000 manufacturing jobs so far compared to just 11,700 in 8 years under President Obama.
- A recent CNN poll found that 71% of voters say our economy is in good shape - the highest approval since February 2001.
- The poll also showed a majority give President Trump positive reviews for his handling of the nation's economy – 51%.
- A plurality say their personal financial situation is better off today than it was when President Trump took office.
- America’s GDP grew 3.1% from the Q4 of 2017 to the Q4 of 2018 – the fastest growth in 13 years.
- Despite Democrats’ debunked talking points, we’ve seen the 7th straight month of 3% or better wage growth – the largest wage gains in a decade.
- In 2018, more than 2.6 million jobs were created. There are more job openings than people looking for work.
- The unemployment rate is at or below 4% for the 12th straight month – the longest streak in almost 50 years.
The state of our economic and national security is strong.
“President Trump’s dedication to rebuilding the military and revitalizing America's manufacturing base has directly impacted Lima and other communities across Ohio. Thanks to the pro-growth policies of the Trump Administration, our state and our nation are thriving, we are respected again abroad, and good paying manufacturing jobs in Ohio are being used to protect America’s interests overseas.” – RNC Spokesperson Mandi Merritt
