RNC Statement on July Border Encounters 

More than 4.2 million illegal immigrants have crossed the border since Biden took office.

WASHINGTON - Today, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel released the following statement on the July border encounters: 

“What will it take for Joe Biden to address the devastation and death at the southern border he created with his open border agenda? Voters know this is Biden’s border crisis and they will make Democrats face the consequences in November.”

Background:

• In July, more than 199,976 illegal immigrants were apprehended attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border.
  •  That is a 325 percent increase from the average number of July apprehensions during the Trump administration.
  • 13,299 unaccompanied children were apprehended.  
  • 96,002 illegal immigrants were apprehended from countries outside the Northern Triangle and Mexico, showing that Biden’s crisis is global.
  • 66 people on the terror watchlist have been apprehended trying to enter the U.S. between ports of entry since the fiscal year began in October.
• More than 4.2 million illegal immigrants have crossed the border since Biden took office.
• This includes the nearly 3.4 million illegal immigrants that Customs and Border Protection has apprehended and the over 800,000 gotaways that have escaped into the U.S. undetected.
• 26,213 illegal immigrants, were released into the United States in July, only 17 were released during President Trump’s last full month in office
• Joshua Sharfstein of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health: “If they’re seizing a lot, it’s because a lot is coming in.”
• The amount of fentanyl seized in July is the equivalent of more than 469 million lethal doses.
• 2,071 pounds of deadly fentanyl and 12,989 pounds of methamphetamine were seized at the southern border in July alone, with much more likely getting through as border officials struggle to contain the smuggling.
