President Trump kept one of his most crucial campaign promises by withdrawing from the Paris Climate Accord — a terrible deal that put critical decisions about our own country’s future into the hands of global power brokers. The agreement, which the United States entered into under President Obama without consent from Congress, held the United States to incredibly strict standards while allowing major polluters like China and India to continue to pollute freely. The net outcome was a staggeringly expensive deal that would have cost American taxpayers trillions of dollars, destroyed millions of American jobs, and had almost no discernible impact on the environment.
The Trump Administration is deeply committed to cultivating America’s already flourishing clean energy economy and ending our dependence on Middle East oil. In fact, there are already more than three million clean energy jobs in America, and the U.S. has cut its CO2 emissions by nearly 13% over the past decade — all without the Paris Climate Deal. President Trump’s decision to withdraw from this Obama-era agreement affirms his commitment to policies that prevent American taxpayers from shouldering a disproportionate percentage of a financial burden that doesn’t even accomplish its purported goal.
Americans are proud to reclaim their sovereignty from the grip of foreign bureaucrats, and the Trump Administration will continue its efforts to strengthen our economy, create jobs, and keep our lands clean and healthy without bowing to global special interests. As President Trump said in his address, “I was elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris.” Once again, our president is doing what it takes to put America First!
