Pryor Hemorrhaging Support In Arkansas

- October 23, 2013

WITH ONE YEAR TO GO BEFORE HE FACES VOTERS, MARK PRYOR'S APPROVAL RATING HAS COLLAPSED

The University Of Arkansas' 15th Annual Arkansas Poll Finds That Mark Pryor's Approval Rating Has Collapsed, From +22 To -10 Among Likely Voters. (University Of Arkansas Poll, 800 A, MOE 3.5%, 10/10-17/13)

  • The Percentage Of Voters Approving Of Pryor's Performance Has Dropped Significantly, From 53 Percent Last Year To 34 Percent This Year. "Only 34 percent of likely voters approved of Mark Pryor's performance, down from 53 percent last year. His disapproval ratings were also dramatically higher, with 44 percent of likely voters disapproving of his performance, up from 21 percent last year." ("Arkansas Poll: Shutdown Blamed On Democrats, Approval Slips For Boozman, Pryor," Arkansas Business, 10/23/13)
  • The Percentage Of Voters Disapproving Of Pryor's Performance Has More Than Doubled, From 21 Percent Last Year To 44 Percent This Year.

Pryor Is Performing Far Worse Than Former Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) Was The Year Before Her Re-Election Race, When 43 Percent Of Arkansans Approved Of Her Performance Versus 34 Percent Who Disapproved. "Both current senators are polling well below the Arkansas Poll numbers for former Sen. Blanche Lincoln during her last year of office. She was voted out of office in 2010. At her lowest in 2009, 43 percent approved and 34 percent disapproved of her performance." ("Arkansas Poll: Shutdown Blamed On Democrats, Approval Slips For Boozman, Pryor," Arkansas Business, 10/23/13)

President Obama Remains Extremely Unpopular In Arkansas, With Just 29 Percent Of Likely Voters Approving Of His Performance Versus 66 Percent Who Disapprove. "Once again Arkansans gave low ratings to Obama. Twenty-nine percent of likely voters approve of the president, 66 percent disapprove." ("Arkansas Poll: Shutdown Blamed On Democrats, Approval Slips For Boozman, Pryor," Arkansas Business, 10/23/13)

  • According To The Non-Partisan Congressional Quarterly, Pryor Voted With Obama 95 Percent Of The Time In 2011 And 91 Percent Of The Time In 2012. "According to CQ Roll Call Vote Studies, in 2011, Pryor voted 95 percent of the time with the president in votes where Obama clearly indicated his preference. In 2012, that number fell to 91 percent." (Joshua Miller, "Senate Conservatives Action Launches Radio Ad Linking Pryor to Obama," Roll Call, 3/14/13)

POLLING ALSO FINDS THAT ARKANSANS AREN'T BUYING PRYOR'S SPIN ON THE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

Pryor Is Currently Running Ads Attempting To Deflect Blame For The Recent Government Shutdown. "Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) blasts Rep. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) for forcing a government shutdown and hurting the economy in a new ad. 'Tom Cotton cost us billions. The government shutdown cost America $24 billion. Cotton and a small group of reckless congressmen took our country to the brink of default. His irresponsible actions weakened our credit and damaged our economy,' the ad's narrator says. 'Fortunately, wiser heads prevailed. Senators like Mark Pryor brought Democrats and Republicans together to end the shutdown and responsibly cut spending.'" (Cameron Joseph, "Pryor Hits Cotton For Shutdown In New Ad," The Hill, 10/22/13)

  • 39 Percent Of Likely Voters Blame The Government Shutdown On Obama, Pryor And Senate Democrats, While Only 27 Percent Blame Republicans. "When it came to the partial federal government shutdown, Arkansans blamed the president and Democrats. A full 37 percent of respondents and 39 percent of likely voters blamed President Obama and the Democrats for the shutdown. Only 26 percent of respondents and 27 percent of likely voters blamed the Republicans in Congress." ("Arkansas Poll: Shutdown Blamed On Democrats, Approval Slips For Boozman, Pryor," Arkansas Business, 10/23/13)
