Joe Biden’s Commerce Secretary nominee Gina Raimondo’s tenure as Rhode Island's governor has been marked by mismanagement and crony favoritism.
Business was booming during Raimondo’s governorship, but only if you were one of her big-money donors who were able to cash in on their connections to her. One top Democrat party fundraiser was even awarded a $1 billion no-bid contract, and another donor was fined by the SEC for violating federal pay-for-play regulations.
And while top donors profited, the people of Rhode Island suffered under her mismanagement. Thanks in large part to Raimondo’s policies, Rhode Island was ranked the worst state to do business, and the state’s pension plans have been poorly funded.
And more concerning, after Raimondo “overhauled” the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families in 2015, reports surfaced of abuse, sex trafficking, and missing children at state licensed group homes, with 8 child fatalities in 2016 and 2017.
Here’s more from RNC Research on Raimondo and Biden’s nominees.
Bottom line: Raimondo’s record as governor has been ruinous for the people of Rhode Island. We should not bring that record to Washington, DC.
