RNC Chair Reince Priebus Speaks at National Association of Black Journalists

- July 31, 2014

WASHINGTON – Today, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus delivered remarks at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Convention in Boston. Priebus was also interviewed during the NABJ’s opening plenary by CNN’s Michaela Pereira and Kelly Wright of FOX News. Following his appearance, he issued the following statement:

“The NABJ is an important organization with a rich history—so it means a lot to be a part of the NABJ convention. It’s important for the Republican Party to work with America’s black journalists, and our country’s black media outlets. It’s also critically important that our nation’s journalists know what we’re doing at the RNC to engage black voters. We are and will continue to be present in black communities across this country. As a party, we owe it to every voter to share what we’re doing in cities and states across the country,” Chairman Priebus said.
“The RNC did a pretty simple thing by showing up, and it’s having an impact. But we can do even better. We started the process of looking to improve our own staff diversity at the senior level. I’m very proud of the minority engagement staff and field staff that we have hired and we have begun to change the RNC. But we can and must do even more at the senior level and I am committed to doing that.”
“But just as diversity is important in the work place, diversity of thought is equally important in our political discourse. The American people deserve to hear all sides of an issue. When it comes to working toward a stronger democracy, better elections, and a more informed electorate, journalists and political parties all have a role play."
