WASHINGTON - Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus and Co-Chairman Sharon Day released the following statement commemorating Jewish American Heritage Month:
“Today we mark the beginning of Jewish American Heritage Month--a time to honor our Jewish friends and neighbors and to celebrate all that Jewish Americans have done to strengthen the United States throughout our history,” said Chairman Priebus.
“For generations, America was a refuge for Jews fleeing persecution and bigotry in other lands. In America, they found a home. Their faith and culture enriches us, and their history inspires us. They faced and overcame their share of challenges and adversity even in the United States, yet America is better off thanks to them.”
“We should feel blessed by the myriad contributions of Jewish Americans,” said Co-Chair Day. “But we’re also reminded, even as we celebrate, that anti-Semitism still exists in our world, and as Americans it’s our duty to stand against such hate and intolerance in whatever form it takes, at home or abroad.
“Jewish Americans’ impact on our nation predates even America’s founding. It was nearly 360 years ago that a group of Jewish immigrants arrived in New York City, then known as New Amsterdam. Let’s rededicate ourselves this month to making America a place that is always welcoming to those of all faiths and backgrounds.”
