WASHINGTON - Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus and Co-Chairman Sharon Day released the following statement commemorating Cuban Solidarity Day:
"Today, on Cuban Solidarity Day, we stand with the Cuban people who remain oppressed by the dictatorial Castro regime, and the Cubans living in America and across the world," said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. "May 20th marks the 110th year since Cuba's independence, but sadly Cubans are unable to enjoy the liberty and freedom their forefathers fought for. It is a tragedy that such a freedom loving people continue to live under the oppressive Castro regime that denies basic human freedoms.
"At a time when the Obama Administration seems content to make it a common practice to grant visas to representatives of the oppressive regime and has done nothing to gain the release of Alan Gross, the American hostage, except appease his abductor, we must stand with the oppressed and continue to support their mission to bring the freedoms we hold so dearly in the United States to their homeland. America deserves a leader that will stand for the 'shining city on the hill,' and continue to fight for human rights in Cuba and across the globe; unfortunately Barack Obama's misplaced foreign policy priorities do the opposite."
"We remember the sacrifices of the many Cubans who have fought for human rights and liberty in Cuba, and honor their memory," said RNC Co-Chairman Sharon Day. "We will continue to fight together with Cubans both on the island and in America to bring freedom and liberty to the Cuban people and put an end to the Castro regime."
