DETROIT, MI -- Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus met with black business and community leaders Tuesday at the Renaissance Center, saying he wants to build "block-by-block" GOP outreach in Michigan.
He announced hiring a state director of African-American engagement and creating the Michigan Black Advisory Council.
Priebus said the party is looking to build long-lasting, community-level relationships to establish a "permanent ground game that never goes away."
"You have to be in the community for a long period of time in order to understand and know who you want to turn out to vote," Priebus said just before heading into the closed-door meeting.
