RNC Launches “Blackboard to Blacktop: Getting Ready to Run”

- September 27, 2013

WASHINGTON – This Saturday, the Republican National Committee (RNC) will launch a series of educational workshops further strengthening our commitment to growing the role of women in the Republican Party. Led by RNC Co-Chair Sharon Day, the workshops will be held in cities across the country with the goal of engaging and equipping Republican women for leadership opportunities in the party and in public service.

Each workshop will include training sessions aimed at educating Republican women on how to manage and improve in the following campaign fields: grassroots operations, communications, fundraising efforts, networking and social media.

“We have to actively recruit, train and support women candidates and that’s why we are taking a multi-faceted approach, starting with the Blackboard to Blacktop: Getting Ready to Run training program,” said RNC Co-Chair Sharon Day. “These trainings will empower more Republican women to run for public office, run a campaign or even a local county Republican office. I look forward to talking with women all over the country and reaffirming our commitment to growing the party.”

The first Blackboard to Blacktop: Getting Ready to Run workshop will be held this Saturday, September 28, 2013 in Providence, Rhode Island for Republican women living in the Northeast. Co-Chair Sharon Day will lead the clinic and will include training sessions headed by several seasoned female Republican strategists. Marilinda Garcia, a New Hampshire State Representative and a GOP Rising Star will deliver the keynote address.

This will be an ongoing program with more announcements to come. The first wave of workshops include:

  • Providence, Rhode Island
  • Chicago, Illinois
  • Denver, Colorado
  • Seattle, Washington
  • Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • Atlanta, Georgia
