Leah Le'Vell - October 14, 2016

On Wednesday, Ashley Bell, the RNC’s Senior Strategist and National Director of African American Political Engagement, and Elroy Sailor, Senior Advisor to Reince Priebus, headed up a town hall meeting with Glo Smith, Republican candidate for Florida’s 5th District. Those in attendance included members of the university staff and members of the community from various political backgrounds who wanted to learn more. During the meeting, Glo Smith was endorsed by Mr. Bell.

“I am very proud of the great things that Duvall County is doing to reach out to communities of color, said Ashley Bell. “I am even more proud to be here to support and endorse Glo Smith for Florida’s 5th Congressional District. Our party is proud to have such dynamic and substantive leaders committed to working for the people of Florida.”

The town hall was hosted at the distinguished Edward Waters College. EWC is the eldest Historically Black College in Florida, founded in 1866. The formal discussion mentioned issues that affect the African American community. During this discussion, the members of the meeting also had the opportunity to meet with President Nat Glover of Edward Waters College and discuss the major concerns of the HBCU community. Following the meeting, these leaders were joined by over fifty community leaders to discuss the issues that impact Jacksonville, Florida as well.

Following the meeting, positive feedback was given across the board. Florida’s 5th Congressional District candidate Glo Smith expressed the excitement of the momentum going into the home stretch. She also conveyed how honored she was to have the opportunity to listen to and engage the community.

“It is humbling to see that the RNC is recognizing our hard work and dedication as well as moving us closer to the finish line,”said Glo Smith.
