RNC Message Commemorating the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

- January 22, 2013

WASHINGTON – The Republican National Committee (RNC) released the following message commemorating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:

“As we celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we commemorate his life and honor his legacy,” said Chairman Priebus. “We pay tribute to the values he cherished and the dream for which he fought. His vision for a more just America inspired us to be a better nation--and to seek an end to racism, segregation, and injustice.

“We are indeed a stronger nation, a more equal country, and a more united America thanks to Dr. King. But the progress we’ve made should not mask the work yet to be done. We honor Dr. King’s incredible legacy best when we work to defend the liberties of everyone in our society, insisting on justice and equal opportunity for all.

“We recommit ourselves today to building a more perfect union, and an even more inclusive society. May God bless the memory of Dr. King--and always bless America with leaders like him, who stand up and speak out for liberty and for justice.”

“Individual liberty and economic opportunity are the core principles of the Republican Party,” said Co-Chairman Day. “And only by advancing these values can we truly achieve the dream Dr. King envisioned.

“Dr. King championed the cause of those in need--and urged us all to serve others. Today, let us hear his words anew and strive always to lend a helping hand to those who are hurting, who are victims of prejudice, or who are struggling in difficult economic times.”
