WASHINGTON – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus and Co-Chair Sharon Day released the following message on the first day of Diwali:
“We join our Hindu, Jain, and Sikh friends in celebrating Diwali, the Festival of Lights,” said Chairman Priebus. “During the festival, we hope that they will be surrounded by family and loved ones as they are united by traditional song, dance and food.
“The lighting of the Diya, or lamp, represents the victory of good over evil. As Republicans, we embrace the values of this holiday, and we are reminded of the importance of religious freedom in this country as Americans join others around the world in celebrating Diwali.”
“As the festival kicks off, we wish all of those celebrating a joyful Diwali,” said Co-Chair Day. “As they reflect on the past and look to the future, we wish them joyful and faithful years to come. Saal Mubarak!”
