RNC Message on Small Business Saturday

- November 30, 2013

WASHINGTON – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus and Co-Chair Sharon Day released the following message on Small Business Saturday:

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy. According to the Small Business Administration, they create two-thirds of new jobs. So on Small Business Saturday, we should take the opportunity to support our local businesses, shops, and markets,” said Chairman Priebus.

“Thanksgiving is over. The Christmas shopping season is underway. As you cross off items on your shopping list, you can also cross off an item on our nation’s to-do list: supporting local, family-owned businesses to get our economy moving.

“Small businesses have endured a lot in recent years. Especially with the rules, regulations, and expenses of ObamaCare, it’s not an easy time to be a small business owner. Just as shoppers go out and support our small businesses today, our government should be in the business of helping—not hurting—the people who run them.”

“For generations, American families—including so many first-generation Americans—have started small businesses without much more than a little savings and a lot of hope,” said Co-Chairman Day. “As a former small businesswoman, I know all about the risks and rewards of entrepreneurship.

“So it’s important to remember that when you’re shopping at a small business, you’re not just picking up a gift; you’re investing in the local community. And you’re helping your neighbors—the entrepreneurs and workers alike—achieve their American Dream.”
