RNC Sends FOIA Request on the Withholding of Clinton Documents

- March 7, 2014

WASHINGTON – Today the Republican National Committee sent a request under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to the National Archives and Records Administration in order to find out who was responsible for improperly withholding documents at the William J. Clinton Presidential Library for over a year. The lawful withholding period of the documents expired in January 2013, but no documents were released until February 2014. Many documents have yet to be released. As such, the RNC is requesting copies of any correspondence related to the review, consideration, or withholding of documents.

This week the Clinton Library announced that the next release of documents will be delayed, making it even more important to keep a watchful eye on their actions and for any political pressure that’s affecting their behavior.

“The Clintons have a history of trying to keep their past secret from the American people. Americans deserve to know who was responsible for keeping on lockdown documents that should have been released over a year ago,” said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus.

“Keeping these documents secret doesn’t uphold the principles of accountability or transparency. But it’s easy to see why Democrats would want them hidden. Among other things, they have revealed that even in the Clinton years, liberals knew that it was a deliberate lie to tell Americans they could keep their insurance plans and their doctors under HillaryCare-ObamaCare-style laws.”

The letter specifically asks for:

  • Any and all documents, correspondence, and e-mails, between designees, representatives, or staff of the National Archives and Records Administration, and designees, representatives, or staff of Bill Clinton or of the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library, regarding the review, consideration, or withholding of documents at the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library pursuant to the Presidential Records Act, specifically including the documents withheld under the Presidential Records Act that the National Archives and Records Administration announced on February 27, 2014 that it would be releasing, including but not limited to, communications involving Hillary Clinton or staff or representatives of Hillary Clinton.
  • Any and all documents, correspondence, and e-mails, between designees, representatives, or staff of the National Archives and Records Administration, and designees, representatives, or staff of Hillary Clinton, regarding the review, consideration, or withholding of documents at the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library pursuant to the Presidential Records Act, specifically including the documents withheld under the Presidential Records Act that the National Archives and Records Administration announced on February 27, 2014 that it would be releasing.
