WASHINGTON – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel issued the following statement celebrating the bicentennial birth of Frederick Douglass:
"Today, we honor the bicentennial anniversary of Frederick Douglass' birth and celebrate his profound impact on American history," said Chairwoman McDaniel. "Douglass escaped slavery to become a prominent abolitionist and one of the most influential Americans of the nineteenth century. His legacy, defined by a passion for liberty and opportunity, is part of the fabric of the Republican Party."
"As Douglass once said, 'I am a Republican, a black, dyed in the wool Republican, and I never intend to belong to any other party than the party of freedom and progress.’ We join President Trump in honoring Douglass’ lifelong dedication to the principles that define our Party and enrich our nation.”
