Hey there --
As you cover Vice President Pence’s visit to Pennsylvania today to tout the USMCA trade deal, please consider the following statement from me:
“The USMCA trade deal negotiated by President Trump and Vice President Pence delivers results for thousands of Pennsylvania manufacturing workers who have been unfairly taken advantage of by other countries. While Democrats refuse to act on ratifying the USMCA, the Trump Administration continues to push for fairer trade deals for our nation.”– RNC Spokesperson Christiana Purves
Background:
- The USMCA would add $68.2 billion to the U.S. economy and create 176,000 new jobs, while leveling the playing field for American workers, farmers, jobs, and businesses.
- The passage of USMCA is critical for Pennsylvania manufacturers as one out of four Pennsylvania manufacturing firms export to Canada and Mexico.
- Canada and Mexico purchase two-fifths of Pennsylvania’s total global manufacturing exports.
- More than 42,000 Pennsylvania manufacturing jobs depend on manufacturing exports to Canada and Mexico.
- Without the passage of USMCA, Pennsylvanians would see less manufacturing and fewer jobs on the market, facing a minimum of $244 million to $17 billion in extra taxes.
