WASHINGTON – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus and Co-Chairman Sharon Day released the following statement marking Yom Kippur:
“We wish a blessed Yom Kippur and an easy fast to our friends in the Jewish community as they gather in congregations across the country tonight for Kol Nidre services in preparation for the Day of Atonement,” said Chairman Priebus.
“Yom Kippur, the Jewish tradition’s holiest day, is a day on which Jewish people around the world consider their actions of the previous year and ask for the forgiveness of those whom they have wronged. However, Yom Kippur is not just a day to reflect. It is through these acts of atonement that the Jewish people create a new year in which they strive to do better than the year before. While we may not all be attending services, all Americans can join in the hopes of a better year to come.”
“The Republican Party stands with the Jewish community on their holiest of days,” added Co-Chair Day. “Forgiveness is the backbone upon which relationships become stronger. In the new year, I hope that our relationships both with the Jewish community and with our partner Israel continue to become stronger. To all of our Jewish friends across the world, we wish you an easy fast and a peaceful year ahead.”
