Senate Dems risk government shutdown

As you’ve not doubt read or heard, there’s much talk lately about the possibility of a government shutdown if Congress doesn’t pass—or the president doesn’t sign—a continuing resolution to fund the government.

What you may not yet have heard is that only the Republican-led House has done its job, a bipartisan bill to fund the government passed last week.

Almost every day, the local news is filled with story after story of businesses that are struggling under Obamacare’s regulations, of mothers and fathers whose hours have been cut, of young adults whose paychecks are shrinking, of families who will have fewer health care choices—all because of Obamacare.

In states across the country, health insurance premiums are on the rise, despite President Barack Obama’s promise that Obamacare would save families an average of $2,500 a year. And while premiums continue to climb, government actuaries have predicted that health care spending will also increase in the coming years, including a 6 percent hike next year alone.

Republicans have chosen to stand on the side of the American people. We’ve chosen to protect family’s health insurance and to fight for working Americans’ jobs and paychecks. We’ve chosen to do the job the American people expect and responsibly fund our federal government.

Thus far, Democrats have chosen a different path: They’ve chosen to stand by a law that was sold on a lie and day-by-day is wrecking our economy and healthcare system.

Time is running out, but it’s not too late for Democrats to change course and join Republicans in doing what’s best for the country.

The Senate must act.
