Tammy Baldwin's obstructing again

Christiana Purves - May 17, 2018

Today, Senator Tammy Baldwin played hypocritical partisan games with American national security by voting against Gina Haspel’s confirmation as CIA Director.

While Baldwin and many of her Democrat colleagues chalked up their opposition to Haspel due to enhanced interrogation tactics used after 9/11, she had no problem voting to confirm former CIA Director and President Obama nominee John Brennan who served as a senior official at the CIA when the program was put in place.

“Today, Tammy Baldwin once again chose to obstruct national security by voting against the historic confirmation of Gina Haspel for CIA Director. The Wisconsin voters she was elected to serve will remember that Baldwin prioritized casting a purely partisan and hypocritical vote against a well-qualified nominee over their safety and security.” – RNC Spokesperson Christiana Purves

Background:

In 2013, 50 members of the Democratic Caucus voted to confirm President Obama’s nominee for CIA Director John Brennan, who was deputy executive CIA Director, the #4 in command, from 2001 to 2003. 36 of the Democrats who voted to confirm him are still in the Senate today.
