The Democrat Candidate For Governor Of Virginia Doesn't Know Much About Governing

McAuliffe Doesn't Know Much About Virginia's Government

Today, In The Virginian-Pilot, McAuliffe Wouldn't Name Any Sitting Cabinet Members, Saying He "Maybe Could, Maybe Couldn't." "In a recent interview, McAuliffe wouldn't give specific responses when asked about technical aspects of legislative and governor's office operations. Asked if he could name the positions in the governor's Cabinet, for instance, McAuliffe said: 'Maybe could, maybe couldn't. That's not what I'm going to do here today because that's not what I'm talking about.'" (Julian Walker, "McAuliffe Faces Cuccinelli, Inexperience In Race," The Virginian-Pilot, 3/13/13)

McAuliffe Doesn't Know Much About The Issues

McAuliffe: "I Stay Away From Issues." "Mr. McAuliffe says he uses his influence to get people together with Mr. Clinton or to recommend them for presidential appointments, but he never discusses substantive issues with the president or lobbies him. 'I stay away from issues,' he said." (Jeff Gerth, "Friendship Counts: Clinton's Top Fund-Raiser Made Lots For Himself, Too," The New York Times, 12/12/99)

McAuliffe Doesn't Know Much About How A Bill Becomes A Law

McAuliffe: "I Don't Know How To Get A Bill Through Congress… I Couldn't Name You 20 Members." "'What could he do for me?' McAuliffe asked in a recent interview about Clinton, suggesting he has everything he needs. He said he does not lobby the president and knows little about legislation. 'I don't know how to get a bill through Congress,' he said. 'I couldn't name you 20 members.'" ("Fund-Raiser Also Clinton's Personal Financial Backer," Orlando Sentinel, 9/5/99)

McAuliffe Doesn't Know Much About The Documents He Signs

"Mr. McAuliffe Defers To His Lawyers And Bankers When It Comes To Documents. 'I've Signed Thousands Of Documents, But Never Read Them.'" "Some of his friends say McAuliffe Inc. is too invisible. 'I've complained to him about his lack of infrastructure -- how can we get you a fax,' said Ed Rogers, a Republican lobbyist who was one of Mr. McAuliffe's sources of information during the impeachment of Mr. Clinton. Mr. McAuliffe defers to his lawyers and bankers when it comes to documents. 'I've signed thousands of documents, but never read them, 'he said." (Jeff Gerth, "Friendship Counts: Clinton's Top Fund-Raiser Made Lots For Himself, Too," The New York Times, 12/12/99)

McAuliffe Doesn't Know Much About What Happened In Law School

McAuliffe "Barely Attended" His Law School Classes. "This, believe it or not, was the God's truth. I am a member of the Supreme Court Bar. Now, you might be wondering: How does a person who barely attended his law school classes become a member of the United States Supreme Court Bar?" (Terry McAuliffe and Steve Kettmann, "What A Party!," Thomas Dunne Books, 2007)

McAuliffe Doesn't Know Much About What Happened Just A Minute Ago

"His Attention Span Is Short, So Motion Is Important." "An Irish Catholic who has made a fortune in real estate and other private ventures -- much of it from contacts made through his fund raising -- McAuliffe grins a lot and laughs in a deep baritone. He cajoles. He needles. He jokes. His attention span is short, so motion is important." (Ken Foskett, "The Money Man Behind The Convention," Austin American-Statesman, 8/13/00)
