You might have seen that Senator Donnelly announced that he’ll be voting to confirm Mike Pompeo earlier today. You might have also seen that he made his announcement, drum roll please…..after it became clear that Pompeo already had enough votes in the Senate to be confirmed.
Whether it’s tax reform, the CR bill, or any other major vote in Washington, this is the classic Do-Nothing Donnelly DC playbook: do nothing while the other Senators determine the outcome of the vote, run out the clock, make a last second decision once the vote has already been determined. Rinse and repeat.
Why can’t Joe Donnelly tell Hoosiers where he stands when it matters? Is he purposely running out the clock on every major vote to the benefit of Hoosiers, or is he simply doing what’s best for his re-election campaign?
“Once again, Do-Nothing Democrat Joe Donnelly waited until it was already known that there were enough votes to confirm Mike Pompeo before announcing his own position. Every time an important vote happens in Washington, Donnelly runs out the clock to issue a position at the expense of Hoosiers and to the benefit of his own reelection campaign. Hoosiers deserve a Senator who will shoot straight and come November they have a chance to replace Donnelly with someone who will do that on a daily basis as opposed to when it’s only politically expedient.” –RNC Spokesperson Michael Joyce
