United Nations Of Obama Donors

- September 20, 2012

Candidate Obama Promised To Change To Washington, But As President, He Favors Top Donors For Prestigious Appointments

In 2008, Obama Campaigned Against The “Same Old Politics In Washington.” OBAMA: “Because at this defining moment in our history – with our nation at war, and our economy in recession – we know that the American people cannot afford four more years of the same failed policies and the same old politics in Washington. We know that the time for change has come.” (Sen. Barack Obama, Remarks, Springfield, IL, 8/23/08)

  • Obama’s Placement Of Donors In Plum Positions Violates His “Claims To Have Changed Business As Usual In Washington.” “While the Obama administration tightened restrictions on hiring lobbyists, the deference it has shown major donors contradicts its claims to have changed business as usual in Washington, critics said.” (Fred Schulte, John Aloysius Farrell, and Jeremy Borden, “Obama Rewards Big Bundlers With Jobs, Commissions, Stimulus Money, Government Contracts, And More,” iWatch , 6/15/11)

JUST THIS MONTH OBAMA HAS NOMINATED TWO MEGA DONORS FOR POSITIONS AT THE UNITED NATIONS

Cheryl Saban

On September 20, 2012, Obama Nominated Cheryl Saban As A U.S. Representative To The U.N. General Assembly Session. (“President Obama Announces More Key Administration Posts,” White House Press Release, 9/20/12)

Cheryl Saban’s Husband, Haim Saban, Was One Of The “Major Donors Who Needed To Hear From Him [Obama] Personally Before Offering A Full Commitment.” “For the president, the efforts here have required occasional direct contact with major donors who needed to hear from him personally before offering a full commitment, including Haim Saban, the television industry billionaire and major backer of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign. He told The Hollywood Reporter recently that Mr. Obama had received him in the Oval Office. Mr. Obama has also taken it upon himself to call key figures in the industry to measure the political temperature, among them Ari Emanuel, the powerful Hollywood agent and brother of his former chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel.” (Adam Nagourney and Jim Rutenberg, “Obama”s New Courting Of Hollywood Pays Off,” The New York Times, 5/9/12)

  • Haim Saban’s Decision To Become Active In Obama’s Campaign Came After He Met With The President In The Oval Office In December 2011. “For Saban, it took a one-on-one session with the president to turn the tide. ‘I will tell you that we had a very good meeting,’ says Saban of his Oval Office visit. ‘I relayed my concerns. In my mind, the president was very classy. He didn’t ask me for anything. We just talked about policy, the economy, and what’s going on around the world. Basically, because of that meeting, I thought to myself that it was time to get active again.’” (Tina Daunt, “Obama”s $500,000 Power Couple,” The Hollywood Reporter, 4/25/12)
  • On December 19, 2011, Haim Saban Donated $5,000 To Obama. ( Center For Responsive Politics, Accessed 9/20/12)

In February 2012, Obama And Democrats Began Targeting Haim Saban To Donate To Priorities USA. “President Barack Obama is looking for deep-pocketed Democrats to fund his re-election after dropping his opposition to a new breed of political-action committee, and some allies have set their sights on a Hollywood billionaire who ranks as one of the Democrats” biggest-ever donors. … Obama supporters are soliciting help from Haim Saban, an Israeli-American music and media executive who owns the rights to the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, according to people familiar with the matter.” (Brody Mullins, Erica Orden and Carol E. Lee, “Democrats Court Big Donor For PAC,”The Wall Street Journal, 2/8/12)

  • In June, Saban Donated $1 Million To Super PACs Supporting Obama And The Democrats. “In an encouraging sign for Democrats nervous about getting crushed in the outside money chase, Haim Saban late last month donated a total of $1 million to super PACs supporting President Barack Obama and the Party’s congressional candidates, according to report filed Friday afternoon with the Federal Election Commission. Saban, a billionaire media entrepreneur, was among a handful of major Democratic donors who had been intensely courted for months to write a big check to support Obama and his Democratic congressional allies.” (Ken Vogel, “Haim Saban Antes Up $1 Million,” Politico, 7/13/12)

Haim Saban Donated $1 Million To The Unity 2012 PAC On June 25, 2012. (Federal Election Commission, Accessed 9/20/12)

  • Unity 2012 PAC Is A Joint Fundraising Committee Between House Majority PAC, Majority PAC, And Priorities USA Action. (Federal Election Commission, Accessed 9/20/12)
  • Unity 2012 PAC Transferred $325,520.84 To Priorities USA Action On June 29, 2012. (Federal Election Commission, Accessed 9/20/12)

Ted Dintersmith

On September 12, 2012, Obama Nominated Ted Dintersmith As An Alternate U.S. Representative To The U.N. General Assembly Session. (“President Obama Announces More Key Administration Posts,” White House Press Release, 9/12/12)

Ted Dintersmith Has Raised Between $50,000 and $100,000 For Obama’s Reelection Campaign. (Center For Responsive Politics, Accessed 9/20/12)

In 2008, Dintersmith Raised Between $200,000 And $500,000 For Obama’s Reelection Campaign. (Center For Responsive Politics, Accessed 9/20/12)

OBAMA HAS A HISTORY OF AWARDING BUNDLERS WITH PLUM POSITIONS

Nearly 200 Of Obama’s Biggest Donors Have Raked In Millions Of Taxpayer Dollars Or Plum Positions In The Obama Administration. “More than two years after President Obama took office vowing to banish “special interests” from his administration, nearly 200 of his biggest donors have landed plum government jobs and advisory posts, won federal contracts worth millions of dollars for their business interests or attended numerous elite White House meetings and social events, an investigation by iWatch News has found.” (Fred Schulte, John Aloysius Farrell, and Jeremy Borden, “Obama Rewards Big Bundlers With Jobs, Commissions, Stimulus Money, Government Contracts, And More,”iWatch , 6/15/11)

“Nearly 80 Percent Of Bundlers Who Raised $500,000 Or More For Mr. Obama Were Appointed To Posts In The Administration.” “Nearly 80 percent of bundlers who raised $500,000 or more for Mr. Obama were appointed to posts in the administration, according to a 2011 report by the Center for Public Integrity, which tracks campaign finance issues. While most envoys got perches in coveted capitals like Prague, Brussels, Vienna, Copenhagen or Oslo, a few were sent to commercially or politically delicate posts like Canada and South Africa.” (Mark Landler, “Obama Rewarded “08 Fund-Raisers, Barring Some From Helping Now,” The New York Times , 7/24/12)

  • Obama Awarded His “Fervent Supporters” From 2008 With Diplomatic Appointments. “When President Obama named Hillary Rodham Clinton secretary of state after the 2008 election, he turned a rival into a loyalist. But he also lost Mrs. Clinton as one of the most popular Democratic fund-raisers for his re-election effort, since the nation’s chief diplomat is not allowed to engage in campaigning. The same restriction applies to the State Department’s ambassadors around the world, nearly two dozen of whom were fervent supporters of Mr. Obama in 2008, raising tens of millions of dollars for his first presidential campaign. He rewarded these backers with coveted diplomatic appointments to London, Paris, Tokyo and other capitals. Now, as federal employees, they are legally barred from reopening their gilt-edged contact lists.” (Mark Landler, “Obama Rewarded “08 Fund-Raisers, Barring Some From Helping Now,” The New York Times , 7/24/12)

“More Than A Dozen Current Or Former Ambassadors Were Listed By The 2008 Campaign As Being In The Top Tier Of Bundlers.” “More than a dozen current or former ambassadors were listed by the 2008 campaign as being in the top tier of bundlers — fund-raisers who collected a minimum of $500,000 in checks from other donors and bundled them together. The campaign does not disclose specific figures above $500,000; the total for several of these people most likely ran into the multimillions.” (Mark Landler, “Obama Rewarded “08 Fund-Raisers, Barring Some From Helping Now,” The New York Times , 7/24/12)

  • Former Obama Fundraisers John V. Roos, Charles H. Rivkin, And Louis B. Susman Have All Received Ambassadorships. “The ambassador to Japan, John V. Roos, was one of Mr. Obama”s biggest fund-raisers in Silicon Valley. The ambassador to France, Charles H. Rivkin, was one of the earliest fund-raisers in Southern California. And the ambassador to the Court of St. James”s, Louis B. Susman, was a leading bundler in Chicago. Mr. Susman has such a prodigious track record as a Democratic fund-raiser that he has been nicknamed the “vacuum cleaner.”“ (Mark Landler, “Obama Rewarded “08 Fund-Raisers, Barring Some From Helping Now,” The New York Times , 7/24/12)

“Political Appointees To High-Profile Ambassadorships Are Often Greeted With Skepticism Abroad As Cronies Of The President.” (Mark Landler, “Obama Rewarded “08 Fund-Raisers, Barring Some From Helping Now,” The New York Times, 7/24/12)
