Today, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump make a return visit to Georgia to headline a summit on the opioid crisis in Atlanta.
President Trump understands the gravity of the opioid crisis. Here are just a few of the ways the President is addressing the epidemic:
- Last year, President Trump worked alongside Congress to pass the SUPPORT Act, which is the single largest legislative package addressing a single drug crisis in history.
- President Trump declared a nationwide public heath emergency, allowing increased resources to fight the epidemic.
- President Trump is committed to combating the opioid crisis by securing our borders, ports of entry, and waterways to crack down on drug smuggling.
- The number of first-time heroin users ages 12 and older fell by more than 50 percent in July 2017. Between President Trump’s Inauguration and October 2018, high-dose opioid prescriptions fell by 16 percent.
In addition to President Trump fighting to protect our nation against opioids, there is also a plethora of good economic news for Georgia:
- Manufacturing jobs are flooding back to the US, and manufacturing confidence is at record highs thanks to President Trump and Vice President Pence.
- The National Association of Manufacturing shows nine consecutive quarters of record optimism, with an average of 91.8 percent of manufacturers positive about their outlook.
- A recent CNN poll found that 71% of voters say our economy is in good shape - the highest approval since February 2001.
- A plurality say their personal financial situation is better off today than it was when President Trump took office.
- America’s GDP grew 3.1% from the Q4 of 2017 to the Q4 of 2018 – the fastest growth in 13 years.
- Despite Democrats’ debunked talking points, we’ve seen the largest wage gains in a decade.
- In 2018, more than 2.6 million jobs were created. There are more job openings than people looking for work.
- The unemployment rate is at or below 4% for the 13th straight month – the longest streak in almost 50 years.
This is all great news for Georgia families and contributes to the continued enthusiasm for President Trump across the Peach State.
“Georgians are proud to welcome President Trump back to the Peach State. Thanks to President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump’s leadership, Georgians are experiencing a booming economy and a strong dedication to fighting opioid abuse that will create a better future for their families.”– RNC Spokesperson Ellie Hockenbury
