Biden’s HHS nominee Xavier Becerra wouldn’t call for free and fair elections in Communist Cuba after meeting with Fidel Castro, but he’s all for suing nuns abiding by their deeply held religious beliefs.

It’s a tale of two Becerras – one who cozied up to Castro and one who bullied nuns taking care of the elderly poor.
When Becerra faced backlash for his Cuba trip, he refused to call for free and fair elections, prompting resignations from the House Hispanic Caucus.
And there were good reasons for House members to be deeply concerned:
- The trip was organized by a pro-Castro activist.
- Becerra refused to bring humanitarian aid when requested by Freedom House.
- He sought special permission to bring his family on this “fact-finding” mission.
- Even Democrat Sen. Bob Menendez criticized Becerra for his honeymoon with Castro, which included a 4-hour dinner with the Communist dictator.
Calling for free and fair elections should’ve been easy. And yet the same Becerra who refused to stand up for basic American values also attacked religious organizations at every opportunity as California’s attorney general.
Nuns, pro-life organizations, whistleblowers – none were safe from Becerra’s legal reign.

In the middle of a pandemic, the last person America needs heading HHS is a pro-abortion extremist who supports a government takeover of health care and federally funded abortions. Becerra’s record makes clear that his priority at HHS will be to use Americans’ health care as a political weapon to advance his far-left agenda.
