πŸ›  Will Dems walk their talk on infrastructure? πŸ›

Michael Ahrens - January 30, 2018

On infrastructure, the public is with President Trump. According to Harvard-Harris polling:

84% of Americans say “the country needs to invest more in infrastructure.”

76% of Americans say “it should be funded through a combination of government spending, bond issuances and public-private partnerships.”

Harvard-Harris pollster Mark Penn: “The public supports President Trump's ideas of paying for infrastructure investments with bonds and public-private partnerships rather than just using current government revenue.”

And Democratic leaders have promised to work with President Trump on infrastructure:

Sen. Chuck Schumer: “On this issue, Democrats agree with the president: America’s physical infrastructure is the backbone of our economy, and we have fallen behind. If we do not quickly repair and modernize our infrastructure, we risk ceding the next century of global economic leadership to China or India.” (The Washington Post, 1/29/18)

Rep. Nancy Pelosi: "If we can build infrastructure — our roads, our bridges, our broadband, our water systems, etc., high speed rail, mass transit — let's find a way to do that together.” (Buzzfeed, 2/1/17)

Sen. Bernie Sanders: “I don’t think it makes sense to say, ‘No, we’re not going to work in any way, in any form with the Trump administration.’ Trump has talked appropriately about a collapsing infrastructure ― our roads, bridges and water systems…” (HuffPost, 1/12/17)

Sen. Elizabeth Warren: “He spoke of the urgency of rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure and putting people back to work. … When President-elect Trump wants to take on these issues, when his goal is to increase the economic security of middle-class families, then count me in.” (Warren for Senate, 11/10/16)
