WTAS: General John Kelly Receives Bipartisan Praise

Democrats and Republicans are Hailing President Trump's Selection of his new Chief of Staff
 

The Washington Post: Kelly has experience as a “disciplinarian, pressing to make sure the military service chiefs and the sprawling Pentagon bureaucracy were executing the defense secretary’s agenda." "But the most relevant experience he will bring to the chief of staff job is a tour as senior military adviser to Defense Secretaries Robert M. Gates and Leon E. Panetta in the Pentagon. The job demanded Kelly act as a disciplinarian, pressing to make sure the military service chiefs and the sprawling Pentagon bureaucracy were executing the defense secretary’s agenda. He also acted as a gatekeeper, deciding which of the military service’s top brass would get time with the defense secretary each day."

NBC’s Chuck Todd: "This is a guy who does have bipartisan friends on Capitol Hill…most of good chiefs of staff did."

What do you think?" SEN. JOE MANCHIN: "Well, he's held in high regards, Wolf, by both sides of the aisle, both democrats and Republicans. I was on the Armed Services for six years and he came before us many times and we just truly enjoyed having him. He was always forthright, straight-talking, told us exactly what was going on, what to expect and basically what he thought needed to be done. So it's going to be received well."

Lindsey Graham (R-SC): Kelly "will bring unparalleled leadership skills to the job,” and "is one of the strongest and most natural leaders I've ever known.” Secretary Kelly is one of the strongest and most natural leaders I’ve ever known. As a Marine Corps officer, he instilled loyalty, respect and admiration from all who served under him. As Secretary of Homeland Security, he has been very effective in engaging members of Congress and communicating a coherent message for the President. Secretary Kelly has earned respect and admiration from both sides of the aisle and will be a tremendous asset to the President as Chief of Staff. I’m a firm believer that past performance is the best indicator of future behavior. With this in mind, the President is in good hands with Secretary Kelly."
