The Republican Point: Democrats' Hypocrisy and Failure on the Border

Democrat Governor Kathy Hochul is a hypocrite.

On CNN yesterday, Hochul told migrants, “If you're going to leave your country, go somewhere else.” This statement comes from a governor who supported “sanctuary” policies, condemned efforts to stop illegal border crossings, and posted “immigrants are always welcome here” – empty words from a governor who was fine with the border crisis so long as it stayed in Arizona and Texas.

It’s worth asking: how many illegal immigrants in New York did it take for Hochul to change her position so completely? According to Mayor Eric Adams, New York City has received 10,000 migrants a month. To put that in perspective, there were 10,000 illegal crossings over the border YESTERDAY. There have been over 55,000 illegal border crossings in just the last six days.

Near Eagle Pass, Texas – population under 30,000 – 3,000 illegal immigrants crossed the border in a single day. According to the Border Patrol union, the administration has released 100,000 illegal immigrants into the U.S. in just the last 3 weeks.

And yet today – in the face of an unprecedented crisis that has raged for 30 months and is now reaching new record highs – Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre:

  • Refused to call the border crisis a “crisis.”
  • Insisted Biden’s cruel policies were “humane, safe, and effective.”
  • Called Texas’s efforts to secure the border a “political stunt.”
  • Absurdly downplayed the crisis, claiming “this happens. It ebbs and flows.”
  • Claimed Biden “has taken historic action” on the border.

Here’s the point: It’s about time Democrat officials recognized the border crisis. It’s a shame it took so long. If they truly want to solve this humanitarian and security catastrophe, they should call Joe Biden and tell him to end his cruel open border policies.
