Biden’s surging gas price crises is taking its toll on Black families

Surging gas prices in cities all over America have a negative impact on Black American families.

• In February 2022, the national gas average was $3.46/gallon.
• In March 2022, the national gas average is over $4.25/gallon.
• In 2021, the national gas average was $2.79/gallon.

The following major cities with the highest Black populations in the country also have some of the highest gas prices.

• New York City: $4.508
• Atlanta: $4.313
• Chicago: $4.816
• Philadelphia: $4.491
• Houston: $3.965
• Dallas: $4.071
• Miami: $4.344
• Detroit: $4.275
• Los Angeles: $5.784
• Baltimore: $4.303
• D.C.: $4.348

Rising gas prices under Biden coupled with rising Inflation has hit minority and working-class communities the hardest.

• According to USA Today, people in minority communities are more likely to work minimum -  low wage jobs.
• The rapid increase in inflation has caused working class people to have to stretch their funds even further to afford staple items like food and gas. 

Due to the rapid increase in gas prices, working class families are now forced to struggle with choosing between feeding their families or spending extra money at the pump. 

• According to CBS, Americans will potentially be forced to spend an additional $2,000 on gas this year if gas prices continue to rise at this rate. On top of that, consumers will also have to spend an additional $1,000 on groceries. 
• According to the London School of Economics, working class families experience inflation at a greater rate than higher income families.
