ICYMI: Coastin’ Cognetti Checks Out at Work While Running For Congress

Commentary

Paige Cognetti is very busy running for Congress, but did she forget she has an actual job?

The current Mayor of Scranton – who ran for re-election with no intention of finishing her term – has already checked out of her government role in favor of the campaign trail.

In fact, Cognetti’s official government X account went dark without a single post for over a month. If you want to know where in the world Mayor Cognetti is, you’ll have to check her Congressional campaign page.

The official account previously posted frequent updates on Cognetti’s work around the city. It seems that now she has nothing to report.

Cognetti was even recently called out by Democrats on the Scranton City Council for her unresponsiveness on work to implement a dedicated ambulance service for the city.

You may remember that Cognetti faced sharp criticism for her plans to abandon her post as Mayor – and for exactly this reason. Cognetti was:

  • Accused of using the office of Mayor as a “safety net for her political ambitions”
  • Told that she should “step down as mayor” and that her run for Congress was “not fair to the people of the city of Scranton.”
  • Called out for running for Congress “at the expense of the city of Scranton’s taxpayers.”

All of these criticisms were proven correct with Cognetti missing in action for Scranton in favor of her D.C. ambitions.

“Paige Cognetti is abandoning her post even sooner than expected as she leans into her political ambitions at the expense of the city who already elected her. NEPA residents are getting a firsthand look at how Cognetti treats her constituents – like an afterthought at best and a steppingstone at worst. NEPA deserves real representation, and they have it in the form of proven fighter Congressman Rob Bresnahan.” – RNC Spokesperson Kristen Cianci
