A swing and a miss… that’s the reaction to Democrat Katie Hobbs’ recent profile in The Atlantic magazine, which featured an interview with Hobbs bizarrely at a golf driving range.
The hits just keep coming for Hobbs, whose campaign for governor was labeled “unfocused” and “not ready for the battle to come in the fall” in a recent TV story.

HOST: “That was Democratic Secretary of State and candidate for governor Katie Hobbs … It came a few days after an Atlantic magazine profile that reflected the persistent anxiety among Democratic insiders that she’s running an unfocused campaign for governor not ready for the battle to come in the fall.”
HOST: “… Katie Hobbs met the Atlantic magazine reporter at Topgolf in Glendale for the interview to whack some golf balls. Turns out, Katie Hobbs is a pretty good golfer. But she didn’t lay out any specifics. That graf here was ‘the past few years have demonstrated that voters often don’t respond well to candidates that lack some combination of star power and a robust policy agenda.’ Roy, is that a problem for Katie Hobbs?”
DEMOCRAT PANELIST: “Well, I think what the article points out, when it comes to, whether you call it anxiety or angst on the Democrats’ side, is a general idea or issue which is that to run for governor, you have to demonstrate a plan and have expertise in the areas, the public policy areas that Arizonans care about and a lot of it isn’t just about elections, it’s about economic development, and jobs, and transportation policy and water policy, etc. and you have to have plans, and you have to know those issues in order to get elected governor […] I don’t know if she did that at Topgolf. I think that’s a bit of an unusual place to actually have a substantive conversation with a reporter, but as you said we all learned that she’s good at golf…”
