Yesterday, Paige Cognetti took her oath of office as Scranton Mayor – an oath
she has no plans to uphold.
Cognetti set her sights on Congress back in
September, which means she ran for reelection as mayor, knowing the whole
time that she’d ditch the job at the first opportunity.
Cognetti has been bashed from all sides for her political
opportunism.

Republican Trish Beynon: “She has every
right to run [for Congress], but I don’t think she should do it at the
expense of the city of Scranton’s taxpayers. It’s an abandonment of the
residents of the city of Scranton.”

Independent Gene Barrett: “It’s not fair
to the voting public. She should not be using this mayoral election as a
safety net for her political ambitions,” Barrett said. “She wants her cake
and eat it too. It’s wrong.”

Democrat Bob Sharidan: “If she runs for
Congress and her heart’s in Congress, she should step down as mayor… That’s
not fair to the people of the city of Scranton.”
“Political opportunist Paige Cognetti has no
intention of finishing her term as mayor–
and there’s no reason to believe she’ll keep any of her other promises.
She’s already betrayed the people of Scranton, and the rest of NEPA won’t
give her the chance to leave them high and dry too.”
