The Republican Point: The "Bidenomics" Context of the Strike

Commentary

On September 5, Joe Biden insisted that he wasn’t “worried about a strike” from the United Auto Workers. Then it happened.

This strike did not occur in a vacuum. It happened as “Bidenomics” slams American workers nationwide. Here are the key facts to remember.

“Bidenomics” Is Failing

Biden’s EV Push Is Hurting Workers And Raising Prices

  • As early as January 2021, experts were sounding the alarm on Biden’s false promises and “green” initiatives.
    • AP FACT CHECK: “Many analysts and the United Auto Workers union, in fact, have warned that electric vehicle manufacturing probably will mean fewer net auto-making jobs…Currently, automakers pay workers who assemble batteries less than they pay those who manufacture vehicles.
  • According to the UAW, Biden’s green energy policies have “failed to protect workers in the car industry.”
    • According to a regional director for the UAW, David Green, some electric vehicle workers are “working two jobs to get by.”
    • Per UAW President Shawn Fain, the Biden administration has “actively” funded a “race to the bottom” in wages and benefits “with billions in public money.”
  • In 2022, Stellantis ended production at a 58-year-old Jeep factory and laid off roughly 1,200 workers after it could not be converted to an electric vehicle facility.
  • Workers at new battery manufacturing facilities are being paid “roughly half” the starting salary of what GM workers used to get paid at one former gasoline-car plant in Lordstown, Ohio.
  • To add insult to injury, Biden is putting workers’ jobs on the chopping block as the demand for EVs isn’t even there.
    • According to PEW Research, half of U.S. adults say they are not too or not at all likely to consider purchasing an EV, and 59 percent of Americans oppose the idea of phasing out the production of new gas-powered vehicles by 2035.

Biden Is Empowering The Chinese Communist Party

And what about Michigan Democrats? Where do their priorities lie? They are set to end the legislative session early so Biden can have his preferred primary date.

Here’s the point: “Bidenomics” has failed working Americans. Every time he claims “Bidenomics is working,” it’s a slap in the face to American families.
