RNC chair says Iowa is key in holding GOP majority in Congress

Republican National Committee Chair Joe Gruters visited Iowa to open two GOP victory offices, pointing to the state’s closely watched U.S. House races as a major reason for the investment.
"Iowa's always been the place where you had to go if you wanted to win the presidency," Joe Gruters the Republican National Committee chair said. "Now Iowa's the place you gotta go if you want to hold the majority."
Gruters told Iowa’s News Now the RNC is paying particular attention to Iowa’s 1st and 3rd congressional districts.
In the 1st District, Republican incumbent Mariannette Miller-Meeks is facing Democrat Christina Bohannan. In the 3rd District, Republican incumbent Zach Nunn is facing Democratic state Sen. Sarah Trone Garriott.
Gruters said those races could play an important role in determining which party controls the U.S. House.
"If you go to the cook political report, 212 seats they say we have and then the 18 toss up races," Gruters said. "We need to win six. So 33% of the races that we need are right here in Iowa. That's why you're going to have a lot of attention played and focused on Iowa."
