Chairman Gruters on Democrats Being Solely Responsible for
the Shutdown:
“Anybody that’s paying attention knows that this squarely lies on the feet
of the Democrats. They voted against this CR six different times, which just
continues spending at the current levels.”
Chairman Gruters on What This Shutdown Is About:
“You can’t hold the government hostage on these issues ... that needs to
be negotiated separately. That’s not what this discussion is about. What the
discussion right now is about the CR, continuing spending at the levels that
they’re currently on for a couple of weeks so they can negotiate all these
other things out.”
Chairman Gruters on the 2026 Midterms and a Possible Republican
Convention:
“There’s a lot to talk about. There are a lot of great things happening.
And yes, anything where we could let the American people know so we could
take it directly to them, like a convention, will go a long way and so I’m
excited for the opportunity, but we’ll wait and see what happens...
“…We’re going to make sure we do everything we need to do to make sure
that Republicans are going to be successful in the midterms.”
