RNC Statement on June Border Encounters

In June, 207,416 illegal immigrants were apprehended at the southern border, the highest number for the month of June in DHS history
 

WASHINGTON - Today, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel released the following statement on the June border apprehensions:

"Drug cartels and human smugglers thrive under Joe Biden's border crisis as deadly fentanyl and illegal immigrants pour into the country. American families and small businesses are less safe as a result of Biden’s open border agenda – yet he doesn’t care." 

Background:

• In June, 207,416 illegal immigrants were apprehended attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border, making this the highest number of June apprehensions in DHS history.
  • It’s a 9 percent increase over last June, and a 310 percent increase from the average number of June apprehensions during the Trump administration.
  • More than 3.9 million illegal immigrants have been caught attempting to cross the border since Biden took office.
  • This includes the 3.1 million illegal immigrants that Customs and Border Protection has apprehended and the nearly 800,000 gotaways that have escaped into the U.S. undetected.
  • 621 pounds of deadly fentanyl – the equivalent of more than 140 million  lethal doses – were seized at the southern border in June alone, with much more likely getting through
