WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last night, the Republican National Committee (RNC) and the Republican Party of Florida (Florida GOP) filed a motion to intervene to defend Florida's SAVE Act, H.B. 991.
“Democrats are once again attacking commonsense election safeguards that more than 80% of Americans support,” said RNC Chairman Joe Gruters. “The RNC is intervening to defend Florida’s proof-of-citizenship law, protect the voter rolls, and stop yet another attempt by Democrats to cheat in our elections."

Yesterday, the RNC and Florida GOP moved to intervene in lawsuits brought by UnidosUS, the Florida NAACP, and other left-wing groups challenging Florida's proof-of-citizenship law, H.B. 991.
The lawsuits seek to block Florida's requirement that people provide proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote.
The RNC and Florida GOP are defending this law to ensure only U.S. citizens can register to vote, keep noncitizens off the voter rolls, and protect Florida's elections.
The RNC is also defending Arizona's proof-of-citizenship law before the U.S. Supreme Court, which is set to hear the case next term.
This case is part of the RNC's nationwide effort to defend voter eligibility requirements and ensure only eligible American citizens can register to vote.
