RNC Chairwoman: Whitmer scandals bring honesty into question

Detroit News
RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel

"As a lifelong Michigan resident, I’m thrilled to be back in my home state this week. I’m less thrilled about our governor’s continued record of failure in office, which is making life harder for people from Menominee to Monroe.

"Even more concerning are Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s personal scandals, which underscore the extent of her disconnect from the people of our state and call into question her commitment to honesty and transparency in office.

"If you live in Michigan, you know that Whitmer has failed to properly manage the COVID-19 crisis from the very start. Her strict, job-killing lockdowns left thousands of workers crushed despite Michigan remaining a hotspot throughout the pandemic.
...

"Whitmer has also broken the trust of Michigan residents with her personal conduct. Most recently, it was reported that she flew to Florida on a private plane in March to visit her father. I have no issue with the reason for her visit — nothing is more important than family — but I take issue with its timing and the shadowy logistics behind her flight.
...

"It calls to mind last May, when her husband was reportedly caught traveling to their lake house as Whitmer was loudly urging residents not to leave their homes. He allegedly attempted to use his wife’s name to get the family boat in the water.
...

"This is the kind of hypocritical 'leadership' that has left Americans everywhere incensed throughout this COVID-19 pandemic. When elected officials ask us to make difficult sacrifices — like not visiting our loved ones or keeping our kids out of school — we deserve to rest assured that they, too, are following their own rules. When they don’t, it’s bad leadership.

And on a deeper level, it’s just bad character."
