Following the RNC’s lawsuit against Green Bay, Wisconsin for restricting access for poll watchers, RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel released the following statement.
“The RNC is suing Green Bay alongside concerned Wisconsin voters because the city's Democrat election officials are refusing to follow Wisconsin’s election law. Poll watchers have a right to poll watch, but Green Bay's Clerk is refusing to let them in the room. This is unacceptable: Republicans are going to court to deliver Wisconsinites the ballot box transparency to which they are legally entitled.” -- RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel
Background:
- As a vital means to ensure that Wisconsin’s elections are administered in accordance with the law, the Wisconsin Legislature has expressly afforded members of the public with the unfettered right to, among other things, “readily observe all aspects of the voting process.”
- Contrary to law, Green Bay’s Clerk has been prohibiting members of the public from observing all aspects of the in-person absentee voting process that has been underway since October 25 at the City Clerk’s office.
- The RNC has taken numerous steps to remedy this issue without litigation, but the City Clerk has refused to rectify the situation and comply with the law.
- This is the RNC's 75th case of election integrity litigation so far this cycle and follows a period of aggressive legal activity over the past several weeks, including:
- Winning a lawsuit against Michigan’s Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson for restricting the rights of poll challengers.
- Winning a lawsuit against the North Carolina State Board of Elections for restricting the rights of poll watchers.
- Receiving key partisan breakdowns of hired poll workers in Clark County, Nevada and Maricopa County, Arizona following offensive litigation against both counties.
- Suing the state of Pennsylvania for planning to illegally accept undated mail ballots.
